Annette Funicello danced in an amateur production at Fullerton in California, of Swan Lake when Walt Disney discovered her. She was only thirteen at the time. Much to the enmity of their Mickey Mouse Club co-stars, Funicello became a part of the cast in the series's debut season and was not obliged to take part in auditions.
